About the blog

If you're like me your search for answers in the global trade field has led to frustration. There seems to be 3 main sources of information available to you:
1) Government regulations, notices and law
2) Paid consultancy and legal advice
3) Generic, high level news and public notices
The first option is just plain painful, and to be honest not many people are comfortable reading the source regulatory material. The second option is, well, not free.... The third option is great, but tends to be too generic and too high a level to give you practical, specific advice. For example "Don't deal with sanctioned parties" is as much help as "Don't eat razor blades" (no offense intended to circus acts who, well, eat razor blades!).
I started this blog specifically to add a fourth source of information: advice and lessons learned from a member of the trade community. In other words, from someone just like you. My comments can't be mistaken for legal advice, but I believe they will help you a great deal, and may even reduce your legal expenses by giving you enough information on a topic to better utilize your paid services.
My plan is to limit the content to topics that may not be covered elsewhere. I believe there is a wealth of information on "the basics" of trade compliance: I hope to cover the topics that are lesser known or receive less coverage. I also hope to raise new and developing issues, before they become common industry talk.
Please have a look, and feel free to leave your feedback. I also want to grow the knowledge base of the industry in general, so I look forward to sharing the insights I find from other people, not just my own.
See you in the trade trenches!
